Creativity is not the same thing as being artistic. Creativity is in actual fact strategy-lead innovation. It is the ability to perceive information and solutions in new ways. In order to do that, one must value ‘fuzzy logic’ and welcome the unexpected.
I am known for being both creative and artistic and wading (researching) through uncertainty until I stumble onto innovative perspectives as a writer, photographer, designer and innovative idea & solution generator is my passion.
I am a well-published writer and columnist. From advertising copy, to press releases, proposals, contracts, promotional materials, video / radio scripts, blogs, curriculum programs, brand manuals, course material and editorial – I’ve done (and loved!) it all. Now I just need to write a book! Also see Content Crackerjack.
I am a self-taught photographer and picked up my first professional camera in 2013 (which goes to show that where there is a will, there is a way). In 2015 Nikon partnered with me as one of the first birth photographers in South Africa. Here’s what some experts have to say about my work:
“Alda’s devotion and passion for birth photography is truly inspiring. We at Nikon in South Africa are proud to be associated with her and contribute to the development of such a unique segment in the photographic industry,” says Chantal Hauptfleisch, Head of Marketing at Nikon in South Africa.
“Alda’s photography is up there with the best international work and she portrays it with her signature intimate style. One can clearly see Alda has an affinity with people through her beautiful portraiture and she has a masterful understanding of natural light,” says Dr. Mark van der Wal, an avid Nikon supporter and past time birth photographer.
Most of the photography on this site is my own. Portfolio work can be viewed here.
Although not a formally trained graphic designer, I do have an eye for strong aesthetics and visual concepts. I can find my way around Photoshop and have overseen many a design brief and story board – from brand development and promotional materials, to advertising and publication layout. In fact I have designed all the web elements (including my logo) on this website.
One of my prized projects was the development of the Toy Kingdom retail chain’s entire brand identity and store experience. I was their Marketing Director at the time.
Ideas, creative concepts and solutions are part of my DNA. You know that one person that always gets dragged into the brainstorms no one else wants to attend? That’s me! Except I don’t really have to be dragged. I’m also good on the implementation side of things and have made some far-out things come to life e.g. (event-planning plug!) cruelty-free Husky Sleigh Rides in Canal Walk Shopping Centre (South Africa) in the middel of summer! I’ve also inspired and managed the development of more than one very successful product and solution (e.g. Carmien Mamma Tea).
